  • AP coordinators should order late-testing exams for students who would like to take exams that are scheduled for the same time.
  • Schools must begin the morning exam administration between 8 and 9 a.m. local time and the afternoon exam administration between 12 and 1 p.m. local time.
  • AP Seminar end-of-course exams are only available to students taking AP Seminar at a school that has signed up to offer AP Seminar or participate in the AP Capstone Diploma Program.
  • Note: This year, AP African American Studies exams can only be ordered and administered by schools in the U.S.
  • April 30, 2025 (11:59 p.m. ET) is the deadline for:
    • AP Seminar and AP Research students to submit performance tasks as final and their presentations to be scored by their AP Seminar or AP Research teachers.
    • AP Computer Science Principles students to submit their Create performance task as final.

LATE-TESTING DATES

Occasionally, circumstances make it necessary for students to test late. To preserve the security of AP Exams, alternate versions of the exams are used for late testing. All students who participate in late testing at a given school must take these alternate exams on the scheduled late-testing dates at the scheduled times.

How to Get Registered for AP® Exams

Just like the SAT, AP exams play a pivotal role in college admissions, showcasing your academic prowess to universities and colleges. Navigating the world of AP exams requires strategic planning, from registration to test day:

  • Find a school that offers the exam. This may be your school or a school that allows outside test takers.
  • Obtain the join code from the school and login to your College Board Account.
  • Access online registration on the College Board website or utilize the provided Student Registration Booklet available through your school counselor.
  • Ensure accurate personal information matching your photo ID.
  • Upload a clear identification picture.
  • Decide on opting for the College Board’s Student Search Service for added opportunities.
  • Be aware of the registration fee, with fee waivers for those in low-income households.
  • Extra Tip: Register early to secure your preferred test date and avoid additional fees.

When to Take AP® Exams

  • AP exams can be taken starting from your freshman year.
  • Consider taking exams throughout your high school career to balance out the course loads.

When to Start Preparing for AP® Exams

  • Begin your AP exam preparation as early as possible.
  • Some AP courses have prerequisite knowledge and require you to take some courses before taking them. Plan this out so you are able to take the exams when you want.
  • Take the AP course starting in the fall and then take the exams in May.

How to Prep for AP® Exams

  • Opt for classroom learning and challenging courses as effective methods of preparation.
  • Take advantage of free practice exams offered by reliable sources, such as Zinkerz.

What to Do on AP® Exam Day

  • Focus on relaxation; avoid last-minute cramming.
  • Enjoy a nutritious breakfast and arrive at the test site well in advance.
  • Leave electronic devices at home to adhere to testing regulations.
  • Essential items to bring include the Admission Ticket and photo ID, two number 2 pencils with erasers, an approved calculator with extra batteries (if applicable), a silenced watch, and a drink and snack for breaks.
  • Follow all instructions provided by the test administrator, including respecting time constraints for each section.
    Utilize designated breaks for eating and drinking, adhering to the rules set by the test administrator.
